League Hockey
The introduction of an open league structure for 2018/19 means
that smaller clubs such as Newport HC can now join the Open
league at the lowest level rather than be required to join the
1st team league removing any fear of the skill gap. Our '1st
team will play in the entry level Midlands division 3 North West
4 league consisting of 11 teams:
Buxton 4, Finchfield 5, Leek 5, Ludlow 2, Newport 1, North
Stafford 5, Old Wulfs 5,Shrewsbury 3, Stafford 5, Stone 4,
Telford & Wrekin 4
Membership
Small organisations like ours are not the main focus of the
legislation although we are still required to follow it’s
dictates. As far as we are concerned we need to indicate to our
members what personal information we hold, the purposes for which
we hold that information, how that information is used, who has
access to that information and our policies in connection with
it’s security. We also need to obtain your written permission to
hold your personal information.
Involvement with league hockey brings with it more formality in
terms of player registration and reporting to our league masters
- failure to comply with these regulations will attract financial
penalties which, as a financially small club, we do not wish to
incur.
We will shortly be distributing revised membership forms which
will seek to elicit just the information we require to run the
club and comply with the requirements of the league authorities.
Your signature will evidence your agreement for our club to mange
the personal information you provide.
Annual General Meeting
The annual General Meeting wasn’t particularly well attended
despite the combination of a game of hockey before the meeting
and the bribe of a free drink, sausage chips and bread and butter
whilst the meeting was in progress. The committee were keen to
increase the number of members involved in the management side of
our affairs this is reflected in the following election of
officers:-
Chairman- Mac Fullwood
Secretary- Mike Fletcher
Data Controller- Graham Dick
Team Secretary- Gordon Hodgkiss
Fixture Secretary- Mac Fullwood
Treasurer- Mac Fullwood
Webmaster- Graham Dick
1st Team Captain- Paul Gerrie
1st Team V/Captain- TBA
B Team Captain- TBA
No increases to subscription or match fees were made.
Headquaters
Most members will be aware that Quinne has decided to retire to
which end he will cease to be the licensee of the Pheasant in
September this year. We understand Bruce (Quinnie’s manager) has
registered an interest in acquiring the licence which means that
the Pheasant might remain our headquarters.
Umpiring / Coaching
We only have 3 qualified umpires – Mac, Glyn and Adrian Peacock.
The league rules require all league games to be officiated by at
least level 1 umpires – we need volunteers to take the
qualification. Similarly we have no coaches on our books but here
we have 2 expressions of interest from Mark Cerrone and Matt
Sanders, are there any more?.
Please contact GORDON on 07759 114571 or mail
secretary@newporthockey.co.uk. to register your interest in
either/both of the above.
