This season for NHC started with the distribution of numbered shirts to the players prior to the home fixture against North Staffs who provided an organised experienced opposition. Newport had a below strength side and were without any substitutes unlike the opposition. The home team took a long time to settle into the game going 3 goals down before Paul Gerrie scored to complete passing interchange with Tom and Luca. A better start to the second half by Newport was unable to result in further scores , the game ending with North Staffs running out winners 7-1.
